The cycle track is also a different color concrete—dark granite color—to differentiate it from the road and sidewalk as an extra safety precaution. “Originally, the sidewalks and cycle track were designed as 4-in., steel- reinforced concrete, but in our experience, that design is likely to crack over time,” says Sean Self, project manager and safety manager for Villalobos Concrete.* “We recommended that it be increased to 6 in. with fiber mesh—a recommendation that was accepted.” The eye-appealing boulevard serves as the welcome city leaders and inves- tors in the area wanted. “This was a unique project due to the high level of coordination,” says McLaren. “With all of the other construction on different building sites along with normal traffic from residents and businesses, our efforts to plan and create relationships early in the process paid off. Everyone stayed out of each other’s way and construction on all projects proceeded as planned.” * ACPA member » continued from page 17
