He succeeds Will Wilkins, who retires this year after 36 years of service at TRIP, 33 as TRIP’s executive director. “We’re confident we’ve got the right person for the position,” said Ken Wert, 2020 TRIP Chairman of the Board. “Dave’s background in transportation and his familiarity in working with volunteer leaders will position him well as he takes the helm of this highly regarded nonprofit.” He brings years of experience in the surface transportation field, having served as Central District Manager for AGC of Washington for more than a decade. In addition, he served as chair and board member of TRANSAction, one of Washington State’s first regional transportation partnerships. Organizers anticipate more than 100 technical papers, with presentations set as both podium and poster ses- sions. The conference will also feature 10 workshops ranging from two to four hours and covering a range of concrete pavement topics. There will also be more than 40 exhibitors on hand to exhibit and discuss products. The meeting also coincides with the fall 2020 meeting of the National Concrete Consortium, and there are discussions about including TRB committee meetings at the same time. Participants will also be treated to an optional field trip to view test sections on I-94 and the low-volume test loop at MnROAD, a pavement test track made up of various research materials and pavements owned and operated (with partners) by the Minnesota DOT. Registration is open now and we encourage early registration for the hotel and the event. For more informa- tion, visit https://12thiccp.concretepavements.org/. Learn More About Benefits of Drones THE NATIONAL CONCRETE PAVEMENT TECHNOLOGY CENTER, an ACPA technology partner, has produced a series of tech briefs and webinars to highlight unmanned aerial systems (UAS), more commonly referred to as drones, for the construction, management, and operation of infrastructure. Of the extensive list of applications that benefit from the implementation of UAS, construction inspection, bridge inspection, emergency management of flooding events, and land surveying were considered most critical. The CP Tech Center developed a tech brief for each of these topics. A corresponding recorded webinar was given by their authors. The project was completed in collaboration with Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) as part of the Every Day Counts 5 (EDC-5) initiative.
