American Traffic Safety Services Association 40 Chapter News Illinois Chapter The Illinois ATSSA Chapter meeting was called to order with 30members and public agency representatives present. Fred Bergstresser highlighted innovation and evolving technologies in a presentation about Truck-Mounted Attenuators (TMAs) – increasing safety in the work zone by removing human instinct and human error. The technology can be added to any vehicle in a fleet. Improvements range based on U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) requirements. Tom Safford and John Bogues followed this presentation with examples of the past 80 years of road safety innovation, conveying how connected roads will have 80 to 90 percent crash reduction, greater capacity, and less traffic. One example provided howpavement markingmanufacturers are focusing on new camera technology in the vehicles, making their prod- ucts more visible. Wade Tabor of the Illinois Tollway provided a presentation about wrong-way driving, introducing a pilot program to countermeasure wrong-way drivers. There was an open discussion on airfield pavement markings, effective techniques for removal, and application. Fred Bergstresser of Royal Truck & Equipment Inc.
