The Signal | March/April 2020 27 Meetings & Conventions Northland Chapter’s ‘How To’ workshop features panel on triple fatality The Northland ATSSA Chapter gath- ers for its spring meeting in Fargo, N.D., with a pre-conference session on pave - ment marking issues. The “How To” Training and Education Workshopwas scheduled forMarch16–18 withmore than 20 sessions, including a panel discussion of a triple fatality crash that occurred inOctober 2011. That panel was slated to feature the first responders, the mother of one of the people killed, the driver, and his parents. Each was expected to provide his or her perspec - tive on the impact of that night’s events. The pre-conference and chapter meet - ing were March 16. Additional conference topics at the “How To” included MASH, Connected and Autonomous Vehicles, Intelligent Work Zones, work zone training, marijuana on our roadways, skin cancer, striping, and roundabouts. One session offered an update on ATSSA’s new Traffic Signals Committee. The annual Northland “How To” Confer - ence is valuable for roadway safety infra - structure industry professionals who are engaged in selecting, inspecting or maintaining pavement markings, traffic signs, and temporary (work zone) traf - fic control. That includes contractors, consultants, designers, manufacturers, field personnel, and work zone traffic control supervisors. The Northland Chapter includes people from Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. The Northland Chapter held its summer meeting last July at Thumper PondResort in Ottertail, Minn. About 30 members collaboratedonplanning the spring “How To” event. The regular chapter meeting included a full agenda of information sessions and a board meeting. Christina Bennett fromthe SouthDakota Departmentof Transportationwaselected to the Northland Chapter Board of Direc - tors with the membership employing electronic voting for the first time. The board and representatives from ATSSA both shared information with the group. The Northland Chapter hosted its 10th Annual Curt LarsonMemorial Golf Outing as part of the summer gathering. About 28 golfers took part, with proceeds bene - fiting The ATSS Foundation.  The 2020 ATSSA Midyear Meeting will be held in Minneapolis.
