PLSO The Oregon Surveyor Sept/Oct 2019

7 Professional Land Surveyors of Oregon | www.plso.org From the PLSO Office order to get the benefits of a communi- ty, you must show up. If our school didn’t require share hours, I may have just anon- ymously gone through car line, getting annoyed that some people can’t follow the rules to make everyone’s morning quick and painless (okay, that actually still happens—it’s not time to have a par- ent teacher conference folks). I wouldn’t have met some of the best people that have become an important part of our lives. People that have been there when the chips were down and other people that have just made life really fun. There aren’t any required volunteer hours for PLSO. However, without volunteers the association can’t function. PLSO needs the community it builds tomake anything happen—benefits, events, lobbying, gov- ernance, etc. But let’s say you just aren’t a volunteer kind of person. How do you get the benefits of community, then? GO. TO. YOUR. LOCAL. CHAPTER. MEETINGS. It really is that simple. Show up and have a real conversation like the real person you are. Raise a glass, stay for dinner, and ask questions. Share your opinion. Just hang out and talk to the people at your table. Whatever works. Just show up and get to know the professional com- munity you elected to become a part of simply by living the life you want to live. That’s where you will find one of the best parts of member driven associations— its members. Fall is traditionally the season that chap- ter meetings begin again after the busy summer. If you don’t know if you are a member of a chapter, check your mem- ber profile or check out the state map at www.plso.org/Board-& -Chapter-Information (thank you Kelly Miller for updating the graphic). You can also email your Chap- ter Officers from that page. If you would like to check out when the meetings are, go to our new and improved events calen- dar at www.plso.org/Calendar . x • Earn PDH’s • Network with professional peers, exhibitors and speakers • Support outreach efforts and scholarship programs Save the Date for PLSO!
