Attendees will be provided with practical suggestions and approaches that can successfully avoid common hazards which often increase the likelihood of malpractice claims against the dental practitioner. The course also is designed to explore how professional liability policies work and to demonstrate the wisdom of having your practice protected by professional liability insurance. Ty Galvin After semi-retiring from his family dentist practice, Dr. Ty Galvin joined the PPP in late 2022. While his primary role is answering our clinical support line, he quickly jumped in to record our webinar series, write articles, and work on a new presentation slide deck on several different hot topics in the dental industry. Dr. Galvin graduated from the University of Washington School of Dentistry in 1980 and grew his practice into a busy, patientoriented family and restorative solo office. Dr. Galvin is a true gem, exuding gentleness and compassion with every interaction. Reviewing OSHA and Infection Prevention for Your Dental Team 9a–12p, Saturday 5/20 LOCATION: VIRTUAL TYPE: LECTURE CEU: 3 COURSE DESCRIPTION As a dental hygiene clinic coordinator, it is my priority and responsibility to stay up to date with infection control regulations for our profession. It is vital that the entire dental team understands these regulations and knows where to access credible information to both become and remain compliant. We will review the basics of infection control to include handwashing, PPE, disinfection, and instrument processing and continue with discussion on blood borne pathogens, precautions and aerosols with OSHA standards that translate to dentistry. Justine Ponce Justine Ponce is an Assistant Professor and Junior clinic coordinator at the University of New Mexico Division of Dental Hygiene. She is a member of the Sigma Phi Alpha dental hygiene honor society, the American Dental Hygienists’ Association and currently Chairs the position of Member Services for NMDHA and received the Irene Navarre Advancement Award while in school. Justine has found an interest in ergonomics and musculoskeletal disorders and teaching strategies for instrumentation sequence. She also has research published in the Journal of Dental Hygiene.
