OTA’s Advocacy Agenda—Now Online During legislative sessions, OTA’s government affairs team consistently keeps members up to date on the latest happenings in Salem (or in the virtual world, as the case may be). Of course a lot of rules, regulations, programs, and projects are being developed and decided outside of the legislative process. Many of these may have far-reaching and long-lasting impacts on Oregon’s trucking industry. OTA President & CEO Jana Jarvis and other OTA representatives serve on committees, sit in on listening sessions, and find other avenues to make sure trucking is heard. You’ve likely seen our calls-to-action and requests for comments in recent years. These are all ways that trucking can have a voice. There’s usually a lot of noise around these issues from environmental, labor, and other interests that we need to cut through to gain attention. There’s also a substantial amount of information to consume in order to understand and address the issue at hand. That’s why OTA has created a new web page where you can find the current OTA Advocacy Agenda. We’ll post resources and updates on some of the biggest challenges facing our industry here in Oregon. These range from projects like the Interstate Bridge Replacement and I-5/Rose Quarter projects, as well as DEQ’s governor-directed pursuit of Clean Trucks Rules.
