OTA Dispatch Issue 4, 2021

7 Issue 4 | 2021 www.ortrucking.org While I’m not suggesting we hit the streets on a nightly basis, we do need a more proactive approach to our involvement. Best of all, no matter your comfort level, there are ways to get involved. OTA will send you reminders on many of these, including ways to submit comments or provide testimony. If you see these notifications, please take the time to read and respond. If you ever have questions on these requests, just ask OTA. We are here to get you the information you need and help you craft your message. If you prefer to stay local, please get involved with ODOT’s Area Commissions on Transportation. ACTs are advisory groups chartered by the Oregon Transportation Commission and address aspects of transportation and deal with regional and local transportation issues if they affect the state system. They play a key advisory role in the development of the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program, which schedules funded transportation projects. To learn more about the ACT in your area and sign up for email updates, go to www.oregon.gov/odot/ get-involved/pages/area_commissions.aspx. The pandemic put the brakes on some of the larger gatherings, including OTA’s Trucking Day at the Capitol and ATA’s Call on Washington. We hope these and other opportunities return soon so that we can continue to grow awareness and bring attention to exactly what trucking and our economy need to continue to drive our economy forward. If you have ideas on what OTA can do, or if you’d like to get more involved in our OTA in Action activities, please feel free to contact OTA. Sun Tzu is attributed with saying, “Choose your battles wisely!” Always good advice, but it also implies that battles in life are a foregone conclusion. This is especially true in today’s trucking industry. So, choose your battle and then think about how you’re going to fight it.
