Accomplishments Report 2019 5 In the beginning of the year, Texas ATSSA Chapter members met with state legis- lators in Austin to seek inclusion of the state’s Department of Transportation (DOT) workers in the “slow down/move over” law. Those efforts paidoffwithnew legislation thatwas signed into law inMay. Pennsylvania ATSSA Chapter members met with lawmakers at their statehouse in Harrisburg in June to seek additional transportation funding and support for a Pennsylvania DOT mobility study. ATSSAmembers in Floridamet with their state legislators to build rapport and inform them of issues related to road- way safety infrastructure. Traffic signals entities formed ATSSA announced the formation of the Traffic Signals Unit this year, opening Associationmembership to traffic signal manufacturers and installers. The divi- sion’s work group met during ATSSA’s MidyearMeetingandformedfour subcom- mittees—liaisons, membership, govern- ment relations, and education and outreach. Later, ATSSA’s board approved the forma- tion of the Traffic Signals Committee, which will hold its first official meeting during the 50th Annual Convention & Traffic Expo. This new committee will enable ATSSA to more fully represent the roadway safety infrastructure indus- try, specifically in areas related to the MUTCD. It also will garner new partner- ships with traffic signal manufacturers and installers. ATSSA’s Traffic Signals Committee will be working on innovations related to traffic safety devices, including work on policy statements to preserve the safety spectrum and upgrade intersection infrastructure to be CAV ready. Innovation & Technical Services Department launched ATSSA formed an Innovation& Technical Services Department this year to facili- tate its response to the industry’s rapid changes in technology. ATSSA continued collaborating with ATSSA members from across the country gath- ered for Legislative Briefing Day, to learn more about current transportation legislation and prepare for their meetings with federal legislators.
