ATSSA’s Convention& Traffic Expo offers a variety of cutting-edge educational opportunities, including the traditional concurrent sessions and 30-minute Traf- fic Talks ormicro sessions. The line-up of approximately 35 education sessions is designed to provide themost beneficial and timely information available in the roadway safety infrastructure indus- try. With a commitment to its members, ATSSA develops these sessions through research and member surveys. Newfor 2020, attendees canattendmicro sessions on January 26 and 27. These 30-minute sessions are packed with high-caliber content to include the use of data exchanges to increasework zone safety, improving the understanding of friction data usingGPS and imagery, and trafficpaint design for automatedvehicles. Themuch-anticipated concurrent educa- tion sessions will be held January 27–28 with topics ranging fromConnected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs) that highlight case studies and the future of the auto- mationsystemtechnology tounderstand- ing the new Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) to a two-part roundtable about state Department of Transportation (DOT) Qualified Products Lists (QPLs). Back by popular demand, a session on guardrail installation train- ing procedures and challenges will also be offered. ATSSA’s Circle of Innovation, an excit- ing and fast-paced event, will be held on January 28 in a theater-style setting that provides more than 200 state DOT roadway and safety engineers a unique forum to express their needs in the field on a variety of roadway safety infrastruc- ture areas, to ATSSAmanufacturers and installers. This year’s presentations will focus on implementations of counter- measures and advancements stemming from the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP). Reflecting on its past, ATSSA was incor- porated as an international trade asso- ciation in 1970. Today, it has over 1,500 members and has provided training and education to more than 500,000 profes- sionals in the roadway safety infrastruc- ture industry since 2002. ATSSA President & CEO Roger Wentz kicked off the Association’s 2019 Circle of Innovation, which brought public agency officials together with manufacturers.
