American Traffic Safety Services Association 44 Temporary Traffic Control Committee The Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) Committee heard an update fromtheManual for Assessing SafetyHardware (MASH) Task Force. These included a resolution for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to continue their role reviewing prod- uct review submissions and discussed how state DOTs are addressing current sunset datesor their ownQualifiedProducts Lists (QPLs) and ‘device service’ life durations and ‘grandfa- thering’ certain devices, an equitable process for replacing changed/obsolete products, extensions, etc. Additionally, updates were given for the joint task force for ATSSA.comand retro vault/CAV content review, the InnovationCouncil, MUTCD, and National Committee on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (NCUTCD) Proposal 19AMKG-01. The committee also welcomed guest speakers Dave Cortez, senior engineer from Caltrans who spoke on speed zone reductions inwork zones; JudithOlvera from the City of Austin who spokeonTTCmethods to improve safety at special events; and, Ahmed Aburahmah, City of San Diego Public works on the topic of TTC in San Diego. The Traffic Signals Working Group had an action-packed agendawhich includedan introduction toATSSA fromPresident & CEO Roger Wentz, a government relations update from the Vice President of Government Relations Nate Smith, as well as several industry presentations. Those presentations included “Signals and theMUTCD, What Should Infrastructure ProvidersBeDoingNowtoGet Prepared for aCAVEnvironment,” SPaT Challenge, C-V2X and 5G, and “Establishing CAV InfrastructureStability inanUncertainRegulatoryEnvironment.” The group also formed subcommittees on government rela- tions, training and education, membership, and liaisons as well as anMUTCDUpdate Task Force. Mike Schagrin of McCain, Inc. was elected chair pro tempore, William Sowell of Eberle Design, Inc. was elected vice chair pro tempore, and Scott Heydt of Horizon Signals, Inc. was elected secretary pro tempore. The Operating Committee approved the formation of a Traffic Signals Committee. Once approved by the ATSSA The committee discussed new business items for consider- ation to include work zone inspection with drone technolo- gies,work zone layouts, pilot car operations critical intersections or access-controlled areas, temporary alignment as-builts, traffic operations in critical areas, detours and remote loca- tions, and CES functions.
