American Traffic Safety Services Association 30 The Foundation Planned Giving provides meaningful way to help ATSS Foundation for generations Foundation Legacy Circle members make long-term impact on industry By Scott Shenk for The Signal Much of our lives revolves around planning ahead—everything from the routine dinner and a movie, to college or a career. Often, though, those long- range plans can fall by the wayside as we become immersed in the demands of daily life. But establishing a clear goal can make planning easier as it did for ATSSA Chair Greg Driskell, who is also an ex-officio boardmember of The ATSS Foundation. Driskell is a veteranof the roadway safety infrastructure industry and chief oper- ating officer of PPP Inc., a transportation safety products company in Jacksonville, Fla., so it was an easy decision to become part of The Foundation’s PlannedGiving program, which launched last year. “I have a heart for what The Foundation does,” he said. The Foundation provides scholarships for loved ones of fallen or permanently disabled roadwayworkers, honors those who died inwork zones through support for the National Work Zone Memorial, gives children the opportunity to work through the grief of losing a loved one through Experience Camps Travel Schol- arships, and supports the education of new engineers employed by a public agency specializing in work zone safety and temporary traffic control through theMartyWeed Engineering Scholarship. Driskell highlighted one example of why he became a member of The Founda- tion Legacy Circle by including a gift in his estate plan. He recalled Lyndsay Sutton, one of the studentswho receivedaRoadwayWorker Memorial Scholarship, anacademic schol- arship program for the dependents of roadway workers killed or permanently disabled in work zone crashes. “Her whole family life came apart,” Dris- kell said. But Sutton persevered, using the scholarship to earn a college degree and eventually enter the roadway safety industry. “I really saw first-hand the impact The Foundation has,” Driskell said. He also noted that including The Foun- dation in his estate plan “was downright simple.” In a few minutes, he filled out the Legacy Circle Gift Intention form, which can be found on The Foundation’s website, and included it with his other estate planning documents. AssociateDirector of The Foundation Lori Diaz said the planned giving program “is a great way to leave a legacy, so The David Krahulec Greg Driskell Kathi Holst
