The Roadway Worker Memorial Schol- arship Programprovides financial assis - tance for post-high school education to dependents of roadway workers killed or permanently disabled in roadway work zones. The program is competitive andprovidesscholarshipsofupto$10,000 per student per year. Applicants who demonstrate a strong commitment to volunteerismmay be eligible for an addi- tional $1,000 in honor of Chuck Bailey, a member of the roadway safety industry who died in 2002. The ATSS Foundation Board met virtu- ally this spring and awarded scholarships totaling $58,000, including three Chuck Bailey Memorial Scholarships. Scholarships assist students studying a broad range of fields including art, music, medicine, law, education, and engineer- ing. Some students are just starting collegewhile others arewell on their way, including one enrolled ingraduate school. The Foundation Board interviewed and thoroughly vetted scholarship applicants to ensure it responsibly stewarded the resources entrusted to it, Foundation President David Krahulec said. “During this process we have an oppor- tunity to get to know each applicant and hear his or her story.
