American Traffic Safety Services Association 12 ATSSA News Bergmann saidMDOT’s goal for NWZAW was to get the word out to themotoring public that it’s important tomove safely through our work zones, to bring indus - try together for a common cause, and to remember those whose lives were lost. As part of the kickoff event, the Ameri - can Traffic Safety Services Foundation’s National Work Zone Memorial will be displayed. TheMemorial honors people killed as a result of work zone crashes including roadwayworkers, non-impaired motorists, pedestrians, lawenforcement officers, public safety officials, and chil - dren. TheMemorial travels to sites across the country throughout the year tohonor the lives lost and raise awareness to the need for increased work zone safety. The Michigan ATSSA Chapter has been heavily involved with supporting the NWZAW kickoff, including helping to gather additional names for the Memo - rial. The chapter contributed nine of the 61 names added for 2020.
