The Signal | May/June 2020 9 ATSSA News Legislative Briefing & Fly-In moved to fall; Safer Roads canceled due to COVID-19 National Work Zone Awareness Week observed; kickoff event canceled ATSSA rescheduled its Legislative Briefing&Fly-Inuntil fall and canceled the Safer Roads 2020 International Confer - ence as a result of COVID-19. Plans for in-person awareness events were also altered for National Work Zone Awareness Week because of the pandemic. The Legislative Briefing & Fly-In sched - uled for April was moved to Sept. 9–10. The Safer Roads 2020 International Conference originally scheduled for May in Richmond, Va., was canceled after all options were evaluated by the ATSSA Executive Committee and the Safer Roads 2020 Steering Committee. Watch for future announcements for information on the next Safer Roads International Conference. NationalWorkZoneAwarenessWeekwas still observed the week of April 20–24. However, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) canceled the kickoff event in keeping with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Nonetheless, members in every state and locality were encour - aged to take part by using social media to remind the public to drive carefully in and around work zones. MDOTwill host next year’s event. Virginia DOT had been scheduled to host in 2021 but now will host in 2022. The Fly-In will still be held at the Wash - ington Court Hotel on Capitol Hill. People already registered for The Fly-In hadtheir registrationautomaticallymoved to the new date. However, if someone needs to cancel, details are available at ATSSA.com/Flyin . Registrants need to address their other travel arrangements such as hotel and airfare. If someone can no longer attend Fly-In, please contact the ATSSA Government Relations Team at govrelations@atssa. com so meetings scheduled for Capitol Hill can be canceled. The good news is that registration for the legislative confer - ence continues to be a free-of-charge benefit to ATSSA members.
