The Signal | November/December 2020 29 Meetings & Conventions Midyear Digital receives positive reviews ATSSAheld its first major virtual event in August with Midyear Digital. Nearly 400 people registered for the event with a participant survey giving each aspect high marks. The Opening General Session included a panel that offered their takes on the future of the roadway safety infra- structure industry for the short- and long-term. The session featured Ken Simonson, chief economist at the Asso- ciated General Contractors of America, JeffDavis, senior fellowand editor at Eno Transportation Weekly, and Hilary Cain, vice president of Technology, Innova- tion, and Mobility Policy at the Alliance for Automotive Innovation. In addition to committee and council meetings, the virtual platform also included online coffee and social hours as well as an ATSSA PAC reception. The three-day event wrapped up with appearances by Federal Highway Admin- istration (FHWA) Administrator Nicole R. Nason and Rep. Pete Stauber (R-Minn.) sharing insights during the Government Relations Committee Meeting. Stauber serves on the House Trans- portation & Infrastructure Committee and urged ATSSAmembers to reach out to ranking members of Congress and members of key committees to get their priorities heard. Nason and Stauber also weighed in on the federal highway bill known as the FAST Act (Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act), which then faced a looming expiration date of Sept. 30.
