American Traffic Safety Services Association 32 The Foundation Convention scholarships open doors Registration and travel help available for public agency safety specialists Scholarships are available for public agencyemployees interested inattending ATSSA’s 51st Annual Convention& Traffic Expo scheduled for Jan. 29–Feb. 2. Schol - arships cover registration and help with travel expenses, as appropriate. ATSSA and The Foundation offer Public Agency Scholarships and Marty Weed Engineering Scholarships, respectively. People canapply for oneor both, depend - ing on their qualifications as listed below. Public Agency Scholarships are awarded to employees of a city, county, state, or federal public agency at the time of appli - cation with preference given as follows: • Specialize in work zones or temporary traffic control • Active ATSSA member as part of the agency or individually • Active participant in ATSSA chapters and committees • A decision maker or in a position of authority within their agency • Committed to attending all four days of the Convention Marty Weed Engineering Scholarship applicantsmust meet all of the following qualifications: • Employed by a city, county, state, or federal agency as an engineer or hold a valid Professional Engineer (P.E.) license at the time the application is submitted • Specialize in or have a strong interest in work zone safety and temporary traffic control • Have a maximum of seven years’ work experience as an engineer The51st Annual Convention&TrafficExpo is expected to be held in a hybrid fashion with some in-person and some online events accessible remotely. TheMartyWeedEngineering Scholarship is named for a state work zone engineer who spent 33 years in the roadway safety infrastructure industrywith theWashing - ton State Department of Transportation.
