OTA Dispatch Issue 1, 2019

EVENTS Trucking Day at the Capitol SALEM CONVENTION CENTER & STATE CAPITOL | SALEM, OR | JANUARY 29, 2019 OUR BIENNIAL CALL ON SALEM has now become a tradition during the full legislative sessions that take place in odd-numbered years, and our trucking industry is leaving a strong impression on our policy makers. This year we heard from Senator Chuck Thomsen and our very own trucking member, newly elected House Representative Shelly Boshart Davis. Gary Oxley with Oxley & Associates, OTA’s lobbying partner, and OTA staff Jana Jarvis, President & CEO and Waylon Buchan, Director of Government Affairs, gave attendees their own forecast of the upcoming session. After initial presentations, everyone was divided into small groups to meet with 30+ legislators and their staff to discuss three key topics this year: the environment, transportation, and business regulations. Members were also encouraged to sit in on public hearings throughout the day to get a taste of how our legislature works. Inside the Capitol, visitors in the galleria were invited to explore a display about Oregon’s trucking industry set up by OTA (and FedEx) and pick up their very own “I love trucks” button. Outside the Capitol, a fleet of shiny OTA member trucks drew in curious passersby and gave company representatives the chance to interact with those involved with the legislature and the general public. We’d like to thank the following companies for bringing their equipment and leaving a lasting visual impression at the 2019 Trucking Day at the Capitol: A&M Transport, FedEx, Freres Lumber, TEC Equipment, Terrain Tamers, and United Parcel Service. At the end of the day, many members, legislators, and staff gathered back at the Convention Center for a reception to wrap up OTA’s Trucking Day at the Capitol. This was a unique opportunity for our members to build relationships with their lawmakers and drive home why trucking is such a vital part of keeping Oregon’s economy and communities moving. We are impressed by the number of members that came to show their support at Trucking Day at the Capitol. If you couldn’t make it—please watch your email for other ways you can get involved. See you again in 2021!  12 Oregon Trucking Associations, Inc. Oregon Truck Dispatch
