OTA Dispatch Issue 4 2019

10 Oregon Trucking Associations, Inc. Oregon Truck Dispatch EVENTS OTA Annual Convention SALISHAN RESORT | GLENEDEN BEACH, OR | SEPTEMBER 25–27, 2019 OTA RECENTLY THREW itself a bit of a birthday bash, celebrating 80 years during the 2019 OTA Annual Convention. Held on the Oregon Coast, long-time and new members, speakers, and other guests joined the festivities—a mix of education, association business, trucks and, of course, plenty of networking, entertainment, and even comic relief. Following a series of committee meetings, the event officially launched with an advocacy panel made up of lobbyists and lawyers who presented their forecast for the 2020 legislative session, which may or may not be as stormy as the 2019 session! Other speakers presented on independent contractor law, the state of the economy from ATA’s national standpoint, and a panel about the value of training. Six trucks got prime parking spots in the Salishan lot to flank the Allied Welcome Reception, including Freightliner Northwest’s famous Optimus Prime Transformers truck. Later that evening, many members also joined the Chairman’s Reception in one of the resort’s executive suites. Those in attendance were able to connect with peers and make a few friendly wagers on the next day’s golf tournament.
