12 • SIDEBAR • May–June 2020 I t’s time to get off the sidelines and into the game. Let your voice be heard! OTLA is accepting applications for nominees to the 2020–2021 OTLA Board of Governors. Board members are critical to the success of the organization. If you’ve always wanted to be more involved, now is the time. To be considered as a Board candidate, please fill out the application at oregontriallawyers.org/ BoardNoms. Completed forms must be returned to OTLA by July 1, 2020 . Members attending the 2020 Virtu- al Convention will vote to elect OTLA District and At-Large members, as well as AAJ Governors and Delegates. All board members are expected to: 1. Be a member in good standing for the current year and the previous two membership years, and/or have a record of prior committee service or active involvement in an OTLA section, with all dues and fees of the association paid in full. 2. Be a member of the Guardians of Civil Justice program. 3. Attend all board meetings. Failure to attend three board meetings in a year will generally result in a finding that a person is failing to perform his or her duties and may lead to removal for nonperfor- mance. Exceptions to the guideline must be requested in writing and may be made at the sole discretion of the Executive Committee. 4. Raise money by recruiting new Annual Sponsors and Guardians of Civil Justice members. 5. Assist with membership phone-a- thons. 6. Serve on at least one of OTLA’s committees or sections. 7. Pay all of their own expenses incurred during their duties on the board or on a committee. Excep- tions to this policy must be re- quested in writing and will be at the sole discretion of the Executive Committee.
