PLSO The Oregon Surveyor May June 2020

10 The Oregon Surveyor  | Vol. 43, No. 3 OrYSN Corner By Tim Brown, PLS O k, I know you are probably tired of hearing about how COVID-19 is causing chaos and uncertain- ty, so I will keep it brief. We all have yet to see how this will continue to affect the rest of the year. The spring Oregon LS test has been delayed until possibly July, but by the way many government officials are talking, it could be longer. Some people might be happy for the ex- tra study time. I was going to sit for my Washington license this spring, which has also been postponed. I know I am happy for the extra study time! As many of you know, the OrYSN usually has a meetup after the exam to congratulate the exam testers. We will continue to monitor state guidelines for group meet- ups when they reopen testing. We hope soon to be able to meet up with all of you in person soon! As the former OrYSN chair, I want to in- troduce Leo Litowich as this year’s chair! I can say with confidence that the group is in better hands under his leadership this year. Leo is an intern with Multi/Tech Engineering, a land development firm in Salem, and a graduate of OIT’s survey- ing program in April 2016. He is also a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy Re- serves, in which he has served for more than 10 years. He recently returned from a recall to active duty in Djibouti, where he was the Engagements Officer at Com - bined Joint Task Force—Horn of Africa. While there, it was his responsibility to plan and execute travel by their generals to see other VIPs in the region. After re- turning from that, he jumped right into the chair position for us. Leo has been a critical member of the OrYSN for a few years now. He has also been active within the general PLSO community. If you are interested in reading more about him, I suggest that you go back and read the OrYSN Corner in the September/Octo- ber 2017 edition of The Oregon Surveyor where there is a profile written about him, and read the “dispatch from his spare bedroom” he recently wrote for us, on the next page. We want to thank Leo for his dedication to the OrYSN, and for his service to our country! We have some interesting ideas for the future of the group, so keep your eyes open for later news on that. If you know of any young surveyors who would be interested in learning more about the OrYSN, please have them contact Leo, or any other members of the OrYSN. I hope everyone is staying safe! Good luck, Leo!  x Service members forward-deployed to Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, pause for a moment of silence during a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at Camp Lemonnier, September 11, 2019. Leo is one of the soldiers in uniform. The area he was deployed to was a “no smartphone” area, so photos of him in uniform are rare. Photo courtesy of Leo Litowich. He recently returned from active duty in Djibouti, where he was the Engagements Officer at Combined Joint Task Force—Horn of Africa.
