PLSO The Oregon Surveyor November December 2020

Professional Land Surveyors of Oregon |  www.plso.org 7 of Land Management (BLM) Cadastral Surveyors provides extensive training for Professional Land Surveyors in deal- ing with federal survey processes. This program is a culmination of PLSS train- ing for the BLM surveyors that began in earnest in 1970. The CFedS program requires dedicated time to study for and pass the rigorous examinations. The time allowed to com- plete the training is two years as there are many online videos to watch. You can learn more about the program at cfeds.org . Clark College In 2007, the college responded to the de- mand of the local surveying professionals for the need to have trained surveying technicians available to employ. This pro- gram began as a one-year certificate of completion offering and has since evolved into a two-year Associates of Applied Sci- ence (AAS) program. A concerted effort determined the best model for delivery of the courses. After studying other surveying programs, it became clear that evening and week- end offerings afford an opportunity to change careers to those who are current- ly working while still providing for their immediate needs. The program is basically the first two years of a four-year degree program. It enjoys an articulation agreement with Oregon Tech that allows a student to transfer to that institution as a junior in standing student. As withmost colleges, one can attend any course for either credit or audit purpos- es only. There are 14 surveying courses offered through the school year. A com - plete description of the program and other pertinent information is located at clark.edu/surveying. My High Recommendations Register for the PLSO Conference now!
