PLSO The Oregon Surveyor March April 2021

4 The Oregon Surveyor | Vol. 44, No. 2 We Want You! Two Committee Leader Positions Open From the PLSO Office Aimee McAuliffe PLSO Exec. Secretary I often tell you readers how important members are to the running of PLSO. It’s not lip service. This is a member-run organization. national level. Bob has been extremely important to cultivating the relationship we have with NSPS and we cannot thank him enough for his valuable time. Pat has some very big shoes to fill, but he’s also one of the most capable volunteers I know. We are in good hands. That still means we need a new Publications Com- mittee Chair though. In the past, our Publications Chair has served as the Editor in Chief of The Oregon Surveyor magazine. The role now has tak- en on more of a curator role that works directly with the editor, Vanessa Salvia, through LLM Publications, the publisher of our magazine. While the Committee Chair edits the technical portions of our content, Vanessa manages the remaining editing duties with the graphic design- er. The Committee Chair works with the committee on approving and searching for content—original and reprint. Oth- er duties include choosing the Member Spotlight subject and taking turns with the committee writing the Field Notes Column. Go online to Operations Man- ual in the Members Only section at plso. org/mbrresources to find the Publica - tions Committee Charter. We would like to have our new chair by June. For fur- ther questions, please feel free to contact me or Pat Gaylord. Education & Outreach Chair For the past eight years or so, Lee Spur- geon has served as the Education & Outreach Chair, and he too is ready to pass the mantle to someone new. This commit- tee position is an integral part of building the future of our profession. We have all taken part in conversations about a I t’s not a secret that associations are struggling finding volunteers. Every - one has a reason why their life is too full or busy (as you get older you under- stand those two things are not always the same thing). What happens when we can’t find people to fill important positions? The least painful to all of us, of course, is that the same people keep stepping up to make sure it gets done. The most painful is that projects begin disappearing because nobody is there to do them. Right now, two of our most important po- sitions are open and I would like someone with ideas to take the reins: Publications Committee Chair and Education & Out- reach Committee Chair Publications Committee Chair Pat Gaylord has served as the interim chair of this committee for the past year as we worked on re-structuring the for- mat. However, it is time for Pat to pass the torch as he has been officially named the NSPS Oregon State Director at the last board meeting. Robert Neatham- er (Neathamer Surveying) has stepped down as our liaison after a little more than a decade of representing us on the
