PRLA Restaurant & Lodging Matters Fall 2019

28  • PENNSYLVANIA RESTAURANT & LODGING matters • Fall 2019 MEMBER MILESTONES Southern Chapter Our condolences to Tutoni’s in York on the passing of their bar manager and lead bartender, James Gibble, this fall. Gibble was diagnosed with Stage 1 lung cancer in October 2018. Tutoni’s helped create a GoFundMe to help pay for his treatment and allocated a stipend for him during his absence. Western Chapter North Country Brewing partnered with Slippery Rock University to create the Growing Together Aquaponics Program in 2018. The system is a sustainable farming method that combines raising fish and soilless growing of plants. The system is maintained through a collaboration between the brewery and students in the Adapted Physical Activity program to provide work experience for college and high school students with intellectual or developmental disabilities. North Country’s Bob McCafferty recently reported that they are expanding the system which in turn will increase the number of students who can participate in the program. Way to go! Congratulations! Breadworks celebrates 40 years of serving fresh baked bread daily, seven days a week! Bella Sera Catering opened Bella Bistro earlier this fall. The restaurant, located in Southpointe, will be open weekdays offering breakfast, lunch, prepared foods & dinner items to go. Bella Sera will continue its GRA Green Restaurant certification too, making it the area’s first certified green restaurant. Congratulations! Cheers to Church Brew Works for nabbing a gold medal for its Pious Monk Dunkel at the 2019 Great American Beer Festival.
