Twelve of those men landed on the Moon, explored it, and brought back samples of rocks and dirt. December 2022 marked the fiftieth anniversary of Apollo 17, the last human visit to the surface of the Moon. New Mexico made crucial contributions to that spectacular achievement, from the earliest days of pursuing space travel to the actual Moon missions and human exploration of the lunar surface. This presentation reveals important examples of work done in this state to overcome challenges and accomplish triumphs in the Apollo program and its predecessor space programs. Loretta Hall Loretta Hall is the author of six award-winning space books. Among them are Out of this World: New Mexico’s Contributions to Space Travel and Space Pioneers: In Their Own Words.
