OTA Oregon Truck Dispatch Issue 1, 2024

26 Oregon Trucking Association, Inc. Oregon Truck Dispatch OTA Training Update for 2024 By Adam Williamson | OTA’s Director of Training & Development SAFETY THE 2024 YEAR is well underway for motor carriers. No doubt many companies have already put into effect business plans for the year designed to keep their organizations strong throughout a somewhat less than booming economic environment. OTA wishes your company a good year in 2024, financially and otherwise. Speaking of annual strategies for success, now is perhaps a good opportunity to update you on OTA’s training and compliance programs. We too seek to regularly evaluate our offerings and improve our services each year. We have some plans for 2024 that we are excited to share with you. First, the vast majority of our core classes will remain available this year. We continue to offer fundamental training both in person and in live webinar format for vital carrier topics like general DOT and OSHA compliance, FMCSA regulations overview, audit preparation, general best safety and management practices, etc. The schedule for some of these programs may be more varied than it has in years past—not every topic will be available every month—but they will remain a consistent part of our programming, and at least one class on key subjects will be offered each quarter. These are excellent courses for newer employees needing an introduction to the subject matter, and most are available in easy to digest one to two hour sessions. Our more intensive training certification programs will also be available again this year. The NW Fleet Safety and Maintenance programs will be meeting monthly starting in May (safety) and June (maintenance). These programs have limited space and have surpassed attendance expectations over the last couple of years. They are intended for both new and experienced safety/ maintenance professionals looking to take their career to the next level. OTA is currently accepting registrations for the upcoming year. If you have team members in your organization who will need a more robust immersion into the safety and compliance arena, they will not want to miss out on these opportunities. OTA’s three-day Train the Trainer program is expected to be available twice a year again in 2024. Our first class is scheduled for May. All employees that do significant amounts of adult level training or meeting facilitation—especially driver trainers—can benefit from this program.
