OTA Oregon Truck Dispatch Issue 1, 2024

27 www.ortrucking.org Issue 1 | 2024 Now on to some new things for the year. Effective March 1, 2024, the state of Oregon will be requiring all new carriers to attend New Carrier Education training within ninety days of opening a new DOT number (see ORS 825.400 for more specifics). Specific subjects in this training requirement include Weight Mile Tax, Registration & IFTA, Size & Weight, and DOT Safety Compliance. Anticipating there would be a training provider need for this compliance mandate, OTA applied to participate in the program and was approved by the state as a training provider early in the process. Beginning in March, OTA will be offering a monthly one day eighthour training class that meets this education requirement. We anticipate that this training opportunity will help new carriers get off to a good start in their operations. However, if you are a more established carrier with staff who could still benefit from a review on these subjects, this training is available to your team as well. One day workshops offering more detailed training on the topics of Accident Investigation as well as DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing will also be available this summer. These sessions will be in person only and much more handson or exercise oriented than our more basic introductory classes with similar subject matter. Stay tuned for dates to be announced. For a more detailed schedule of these classes and programs, please visit OTA’s training calendar on our website. If you have not received an OTA Training Catalog in some time, updated catalogs are available. Just reach out to us, and we will be happy to send you one. Also, if you prefer to host an exclusive session for your team, do not forget that custom classes on many of these same topics are also available upon request. As always, feel free to reach out to OTA or to myself directly if you have any questions about how we can assist your safety and compliance goals. Help is just a phone call away!
